Promotoras

Promotoras

Promotora literally means “promoter”. Our promotoras volunteer to serve as a liaison between their community and Clinica Esperanza as promoters of health. Their roles include educator, patient advocate, mentor, role model and health monitor. We currently have 10 promotoras serving in their communities. Their population of focus is children under 5.

Nurse Karla Reyes, often accompanied by medical volunteers, makes regular visits to meet with the promotoras to do home visits. These visits include weight and growth chart assessment for development of the children. They also provide the opportunity to detect evidence of sickness, disease, or malnutrition. If a child is in need of an evaluation by our pediatrician, Dr. Raphel, they are given vouchers for their visit at no charge.

If you would like to join us for an International Foreign Medical Rotation that includes Community Health please visit our VOLUNTEER PAGE.
