Peggy Stranges – President

Peggy is founder of Clinica Esperanza. She has served the clinic and it’s community faithfully from the beginning. Her efforts have had a great impact on the medical services offered to the people of the Bay Islands and have extended to assisting others in getting advanced medical care that is not available on Roatan.

Jim Kaltenbacher – Vice-President

Jim Kaltenbacher is a retired healthcare executive from Oklahoma.

Mel James – Vocal

Mel James is a Canadian who has been on the island for 23 years. She’s a mom of two teenage sons and runs Backpackers’s Hostel near the clinic. She has previously helped the clinic with coordinating volunteers, as well as with the yearly fundraiser auction, and currently is assisting with the clinic Canadian non-profit.

Dr. Raymond Cherington – Vocal

Dr. Raymond was born and raised on Roatan. He was a physician at Clinica Esperanza for 9 years. He also has a private practice and understands the medical needs of our community. For many years he has worked to see a new hospital built on Roatan. He is currently serving as Congressman for the Bay Islands. Dr. Raymond is married and has three children.

Kathy Murray – Secretary

Kathy Murray, also known as KJ, is a retired Registered Nurse who lives on Roatan with her husband, Leo. They moved from Colorado and have lived here full time for 8 years. She is very involved in a local church and volunteering. She loves animals, especially her dogs Bruno and Lucy. KJ also specializes in therapeutic massage therapy. She is a mother blessed with four children and nine grandchildren.

Our volunteer staff at Clinica Esperanza plays an important role in supporting our Honduran staff and patients. They work diligently to provide the necessary elements for the success of the clinic. We are grateful for all they do.
