Passion is Born!

This is the story of a young man who first came to the island of Roatan at the age of 11 to work at a children’s home. His heart was stirred at the need he saw all around him and he was moved to tears. He didn’t want to leave because (in his own words) “there was so much work to be done”.

In 2009 he returned with his family to Roatan to work at Clinica Esperanza. This became an annual trip and McKenna Hall along with his parents became a part of our clilnic family. In 2010 Dr. Colin Glen needed assistance in the dental lab. He recruited McKenna to assist him with a tooth extraction and then taught him how to clean instruments and run the autoclave. This was the beginning of his passion for medicine.

McKenna also began his diving career at the age of 15. His love of the sea and diving merged with his love of Clinica Esperanza in 2014 when he and his dad took an EMT fast-track course as a prerequisite for his next step, Diver Medic. His love of medicine took a deep dive and he hasn’t looked back.

McKenna is now a Paramedic, EMS/ACLS Instructor/Field Training Officer, & Diver Medic. He continues to visit his island home as often as possible where he teaches Emergency Medicine and ACLS to the Clinica Esperanza staff as well as other medical personnel on Roatan and Guanaja. He also volunteers with Cornerstone Clinic and treats bent lobster & recreational divers in the hyperbaric chamber there. McKenna is now married and expecting his first baby girl in April.

Thank you McKenna for your heart and passion to serve others and for all the months and years you have dedicated your life to Roatan and Clinica Esperanza.
