Music Festival for the Angels
Many years ago three friends were having dinner, and as it was approaching Christmas, they lamented that they wanted to get dressed up for the holiday but had nowhere to go.
The concept of a party led to the thought that they should have good entertainment. The conversation continued to include charging attendees an entrance fee as a way to fund the event and as a way to be able to contribute to a good cause or two…
The first Christmas Concert for the Angels was held at the Roatan airport in December of 2005. Several years later it was necessary to relocate the event. It was held in March and moved to a meadow in Sandy Bay in order to increase attendance. The name was changed to Music Festival for the Angels.
The entertainment began with an orchestra from the Victoriano Lopez School of Music from San Pedro Sula. Over the years local and international talent have been featured including famous musicians and bands who come from all over the world to donate their time and talents to the enjoyment of those attending and to the benefit of the island.
The beneficiaries were chosen from many of the NGOs that were in operation at that time, including Clinica Esperanza. As the event grew each year, the festival evolved bringing in different talent, food vendors and craft booths. The benefit to the NGOS became the focus of the event and was narrowed to Clinica Esperanza and SOL International Foundation in order to make a more significant impact in the community.
The festival is an annual event and in 2019 had over 1200 in attendance. Contributions and sales during the event grossed over $45,000.00. The community and island businesses have joined forces to support this event with sponsors at all levels. Their support is greatly appreciated and vital to this great success.
SOL International Foundation works to initiate and supports community-based programs designed to promote education and increase the quality of life on the island of Roatan, Bay Islands, Honduras.
