Pharmacy & Laboratory
Dr. Maryori Nunez is our licensed pharmacist at Clinica Esperanza. She is assisted by our nursing staff and volunteers. Together they dispense over 64,000 prescriptions annually.
We provide medications to our patients at no extra charge making this one of our most utilized and vital services. We obtain our medications from various sources. Many come to us at the generosity of our donors either through personal gifting from those visiting or living on Roatan or via their monetary donations which allows us to purchase medications directly.
We also receive medication from such organizations as Blessings, International, Inc and Direct Relief.
Many of our diabetic-hypertensive patients require $500 in medications monthly.
We are grateful that we are able to encourage our patients to comply with treatment and to empower them with the tools to improve their standard of health.
Laboratory Services
The laboratory at Clinica Esperanza Roatan was set up by a technologist from the US, Megan. So much of what the Laboratory is today was built on her initiative, imagination and dedication. As a medical volunteer in Honduras, Megan, truly made a difference in our clinic and helped us to improve services to our patients.
A basic menu of hematology, chemistry, and serological tests are available at the clinic including tropical diseases and HbA1c. These tests support decisions on diagnosis and treatment for our patients who would not other wise be able to afford or obtain this diagnostic tool, as we offer them at a reduced cost thanks to donations.
Suppliers of equipment, reagents and consumables are located in both the US and on the Honduran mainland. The clinic is reliant on those who are traveling to or are planning a medical mission trip in Roatan to bring much needed supplies and Roatan mission donations when visiting.
The Clinica Esperanza Roatan laboratory staff provides over 43,000 tests to our patients every year.
The generosity of our donors allows us to provide tests at reduced rates and to expand our abilities as the need arises.
